Thermowood Cladding

Thermowood® Cladding
Stellac thermally-modified timber - Thermowood® is one of the most advanced heat–treated products available.
Thermal modification enables relatively non-durable timbers to become durable for external use, whilst maintaining the characteristics of timber silvering when exposed to U.V. light. To achieve D2 rating, the timber is steam heated in a kiln to in excess of 212ºC. The heat penetrates to the core of the wood, driving out moisture and resin. Rehydrating and conditioning then takes place resulting in a timber with a moisture content between
3-6% and enhanced physical properties.

International Timber’s Clear Pine Stellac Thermowood® is produced from the finest quality
material sourced from Chile, which is virtually clear of knots, providing a superior finish and a beautiful lustrous appearance. It has PEFC certification, and once it has undergone the environmentally friendly Stellac Thermowood® process gives superior durability to Class 2. As with all thermally modified timbers, when left untreated and exposed to the elements it will naturally silver down. This product provides a more cost-effective solution than cedar whilst maintaining similar working properties.

International Timber’s Stellac Thermowood® Red Pine is sourced and produced in Finland at the Stellac plant where it undergoes the structure altering thermal modification process. As in the case of our Clear Pine, it is available with PEFC certification and carries a Ten Year Warranty. When compared with untreated European Redwood, no chemical leaching will occur and as the resin is removed during the thermal modification process, leakage through knots is eliminated.

ZeroClad - Carbon Neutral Option for Cladding

International Timber are currently the only supplier in the UK to offer zero carbon Cladding. ZeroDeck is also available.
In addition to its sustainable credentials, International Timber Stellac Thermowood Clear Pine is also available with a fully and independently audited energy and carbon trail, from seedling in the forest, through to delivery to the customer.
This takes into account the harvesting of the advanced plantation-grown logs by the sawmill, and the conversion into boards.

The transportation from the forest and energy to cut and season the wood is carefully calculated and set against globally accepted criteria where replanting and re-forestation is taken into account. The global logistics are then included in the carbon footprint calculation and finally offset against credits from biomass production.

The final result is a high performing, cost effective and environmentally sound natural cladding product with superb performance characteristics.
