American Hard Maple

(Acer saccharum, A nigrum) The wood of all hard maples is similar. It has cream to light reddish brown coloured heartwood, with a thin white sapwood tinged with reddish brown. Shrinkage during seasoning is large and it takes a stain satisfactorily and polishes well. The timber is non-durable. Used for furniture, panelling, woodwork, cabinet-making.
